Semipalatinsk Medical University is one of the prominent higher medical educational institutions of the Republic of Kazakhstan. It has its own University Hospital, as well as branches in the cities of Pavlodar and Ust-Kamenogorsk. On September 1, 1953, Semey University of Medicine was founded with the opening of the Faculty of Medicine, and the first 320 students were admitted to it. In 1952, the Cabinet of Ministers of the Soviet Union issued a decree on opening the university. During the years of service, graduates of higher educational institutions are working successfully throughout Kazakhstan, far and near abroad. Semipalatinsk Medical University is a prestigious scientific school full of rich historical traditions and great potential. For 65 years, we have been contributing to the development of Kazakhstan’s medicine and healthcare.
The history of Semey Medical University began on September 1, 1953, with the admission of 320 students to the Faculty of Medicine. Over the course of the university’s existence, 25,000 graduates have graduated and are working in Kazakhstan and far and wide abroad. Among them, 3 academicians of the National Academy of Sciences, deputies of the Parliament of the Republic of Kazakhstan, 6 people are rectors of medical universities, 14 heads of the regional health department, and other figures in the field of science and practice are working. In recent years, work on improving the educational process has been organized, scientific and medical potential has been developed, and the material and technical base has been strengthened. The university is popular in the country and the world and is rapidly developing. Since 2009, it has been granted the status of a University. Currently, it is a multi-profile medical university, an educational and cultural center in the East Kazakhstan region and Pavlodar region. More than 1,500 professors, teachers, employees, and doctors are working at the university to achieve the highest goal. Every year, more than 600 applicants join the ranks of university students, and the total number of students exceeds 4,000 people. Foreign students from India, Pakistan, Russia, and Mongolia study at the university.

In order to implement the state program of the Republic of Kazakhstan for 2020-2025 and increase the level of English language proficiency of teachers and employees, with the support of the state institution “Department of Culture and Language Development of the Republic of Kazakhstan” of the city of Semipalatinsk and the Department of Employment of Graduates and Medical Foundation, organized English language courses at KeJSC “SMU”. At the end of the preparatory course, the trainees were awarded certificates.
