Al-Farabi Kazakh National University

Al-Farabi Kazakh National University’s Zhanseit Tuimebayev participated in and presented a report titled “The Role of Universities in Creating a National Innovation Ecosystem” at the international forum of rectors in Bishkek. In his speech, the rector of Kazakhstan’s leading university emphasized the paramount importance of human capital development and investments in education and science. He highlighted that universities have become the driving force behind social and economic development, spearheading scientific and technological advancements.

The rector shared Al-Farabi Kazakh National University’s experiences in promoting the Kazakh methodology for establishing research universities. Currently, KazNU is the only university in Central Asia ranked among the top 150 universities in the international QS World University Rankings. On July 25, 2022, by the decree of the Government of the Republic of Kazakhstan, KazNU was granted the status of a research university.

“The upcoming challenge is to become a world-class research university,” stated the rector. During this transformation, the university will address four strategic objectives:

  1. Integrating scientific activities into all levels of higher and postgraduate education, reinforcing research-oriented approaches in education.
  2. Systematically adapting educational programs to future conditions.
  3. Ensuring close collaboration between university researchers and the real sector of the economy and major enterprises to enhance the university’s contribution to the country’s economy.
  4. Fostering a culture of digital thinking to transition to a “paper-free university” format, which is reflected in the task of establishing an effective corporate governance model for the university’s sustainable development.

In conclusion, Chairman of the Board and Rector of KazNU, Zhanseit Tuimebayev, expressed readiness to discuss proposals for establishing close ties and partnerships and extended wishes for success in the forum’s deliberations. The event featured eight panel sections, each addressing contemporary trends in higher education. Over a hundred university leaders from around the world participated in the forum.
